Vol. 2 is upping the ante, but there are plenty more characters we need guarding the galaxy.

It isn't long before we will be sticking in Awesome Mix Vol.2 and returning to see Star-Lord and co. zoom across our screens. Among the usual returnees, the first poster for the film gave us a glimpse that Karen Gillan's Nebula could be swapping sides, and we already know that there will be new additions Pom Klementieff as fan-favourite Mantis, and Kurt Russell as Star-Lord's father, Ego.

Since their creation in 1969 there have been nearly 40 official members of the Guardians team, so even with an extended cast this time round, it would take up to Awesome Mix Vol. 1000 before everyone has had their story told. With a larger team to rival even The Avengers for the who's who of space, will Star-Lord follow in the footsteps of Tony Stark and keep on recruiting?

With bigger threats coming there way, and Guardians Vol. 3 looking inevitable, the team will have to delve deeper into the comic books for help, but could it get even weirder than Kurt Russell playing a planet? Well, yes. There are numerous weird and wonderful characters we'd love to see guarding the galaxy. Sorry Howard the Duck - you had your chance!

Where we all know what happened with the Nicholas Cage incarnation of Ghost Rider, could James Gunn's Guardians fare any better with the flame-headed hero? Wileaydus Autolycus inherited the Ghost Rider mantle, becoming the character in an alternate future reality, where he served as a priest. If AMC's Preacher is anything to go by, we know how awesome a priest with a dark side can be.

The Flames of Khauri may have transformed him into the Ghost Rider, but on his first encounter with the Guardians he unknowingly attacked them. Seeing the error of his ways, Autolycus attempted to help them in their mission, and was asked by fellow Guardian Martinex to join the group. Keeping Autolycus as a peripheral member of the group who is wary of the Guardians's real motives offers a moral edge to the film. As Spirit of Vengeance was a founding member of splinter group the Galactic Guardians, having him there also sets up future instalments. Mainly it would just be great to see someone resurrect Ghost Rider properly.
