10 '70s Sci-Fi Movies You Need To Watch Before You Die

4. Alien (1979)

Silent Running
20th Century Studios

Alien has set a precedent for all following films of a similar genre which have tried to create its suspenseful horror, detailed understanding of outer space and its thrilling action sequences. It's an entirely flawless picture, from the actors to the set production.

The plot follows a space crew in the distant future who are set to return to earth, but receive a distress call, which leads to a battle with a monstrous alien and a survival of the fittest. Sigourney Weaver’s performance as the courageous Ripley is unbeatable as her character continues to be one of the greatest female heroines of all time.

The movie is home to several iconic cinematic moments – the facehugger, the chest burst, Ash exploding etc.

Alien is one of the most carefully crafted sci-fi horror movies and a defining reason of what makes Ridley Scott an expert in film directing. Anybody who loves films, whether science fiction or not, should never miss out on this one.
