10 80s Horror Remakes That Actually Should Happen

1. Poltergeist (1982)

POLTERGEIST door scene This is probably the controversial choice on this list. Yes, I do think that it has some good points during the first half of the film. However, there is a clash between the quieter approach, where the film is working and the tendency to let the wrath of Industrial Light and Magic descend because it can. The teenage daughter character in the family does not do anything and the complaints of the ghosts are minor compared to rest of the genre. Yes, having houses on built on their graves is annoying. But you can hear the ghosts of €˜The Fog, The Changeling, Candyman and Ringu€™ saying that compared to what happened to them, they got off lightly. Yet, a remake, with a quieter tone could be effective. Firstly, the building company needs to have been responsible for something worse than just not moving bodies. Secondly, it does not feel realistic any more to have a small child from the suburbs to go missing and there not to be a media circus. Thirdly the film needs not to feel like it has ten minutes of special effects stuck on, to provide an extra climax. Just stick with the narrative of a gradual build up. Well these are the ones that I think could be remade into better films. Are there any others that you think I should have had? Some that nearly made this list were 'The Gate, Christine, Bad Taste, Prom Night 2: Hello Mary Lou, Q the Winged Serpent and Creepshow'. Should I have included them? Let me know in the comments below.
