10 Absurd Phobias Influenced By Horror Movies

6. Dolls - Child's Play (1988)

Kobal Good ole pediophobia, the fear of dolls. Another popular phobia, and one I can personally relate to a bit more, pediophobia is often associated with some sort of doll related trauma that may have happened in one€™s life. Another theory is that the fear of dolls is related to the uncanny valley, an effect in which realistic humanoid objects come off as being creepy due to their artificiality. The aforementioned traumatic experience though, could very easily be related to horror films, which frequently use objects such as dolls or mannequins to great effect. The obvious choice for this entry would have to be Child€™s Play, the story of a murderous doll possessed by a dead serial killer€™s soul. The first entry is this series is a classic, which derives much of its scares without revealing the antagonist. Dolls are often rendered scary by the suggestion of what they€™re doing when your eyes are off of them as opposed to any of their actual actions (or lack there of), and Child's Play smartly mines a similar concept. Chucky is a horror movie icon, and despite having the series evolve into horror/comedy territory, the first one still packs a punch, or a stab, I guess that's more appropriate.
