10 Absurdly Contrived Bad Guy Schemes

4. Dr. Nichols - The Fugitive

Here's a bad guy scheme that's so over the top and ridiculous it borders on the hilariously inane. Dr. Charles Nichols is trying to develop a new drug, when colleague Dr. Richard Kimble (Harrison Ford) discovers that it causes severe liver damage. Nichols, wanting this swept under the rug, takes the rather drastic step of sending a man to kill Kimble, but the man ends up killing Kimble's wife instead. And why was this? Because Nichols hired a freaking one armed man to do the job. We're pretty sure when you decide to take up the job title of "ruthless assassin", it's probably a good idea that you have fully functioning - not to mention present - limbs, to account for any parts of your plan that might go awry. Plus, being one-armed is going to make you pretty damn easy to identify if the plan screws up. Nevertheless, Nichols hired him anyway, and it really couldn't have helped to contain the mess; maybe if he had fully-functioning limbs, the confrontation with the wife would have gone completely differently. Plus, Nichols basically allows Kimble to find out his complicity in the drug scheme uncontested, which is, well, both dumb and extremely funny.
