10 Acting Performances Way Better Than You Thought They'd Be

9. John Cena - Blockers

Attempting to follow in the footsteps of Dwayne Johnson and Dave Bautista as the latest professional wrestler to make the transition into movies, John Cena didn't really show a great deal of range in his first few movie roles.

In fact, it was a brief cameo in the previously-mentioned Trainwreck that first displayed Cena's previously-unseen comedic chops, but it was his leading role in the well-reviewed Blockers that showed a lot of people that he had the range and potential to make it as an actor.

Playing the macho, sports-obsessed father of a closeted high-school girl in an R-rated sex comedy is a tricky performance to tackle, especially for someone with as little experience as Cena, but he acquits himself well in the role and brings plenty of humor and a surprising amount of emotion to the character of Mitchell although yes, he does chug beer out of his a** at one point.

Despite showing a surprising knack for comedy, Cena seems content to stick to action-orientated roles having reportedly joined the cast of Fast and Furious 9, replacing Dwayne Johnson as the ensemble's designated wrestler.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
