6. The A Team - Tank Drop
The A-Team has commandeered a C-130 cargo plane when they get attacked by drones. The plane is blown up but they survive by parachuting down in a tank. Not unbelievable enough, they gun down attacking drones midair, fire the barrel sideways to push the tank over a lake, then fire downwards to soften their descent thus splashing down without a scratch.
Yet it’s all filmed with such high energy and style that it is hard to complain. When the action starts, there is constant dialogue and non stop mini set pieces barely giving us a chance to think. The editing, sound effects, and music create a rapid fire pace that just hurtles forward, pushing us along. Finally, the characters exude an infectious joy clearly enjoying the impossible while maintaining a calmness making it feel like they are still in control of the situation. Crucially, it is plain fun.
By the time we realized that what we saw was absurd, the scene was over and we had been too entertained to complain. We sure love it when a plan to wow us comes together.
