10 Actor Comebacks NOBODY Saw Coming
1. Ke Huy Quan
It's hard not to get a little choked up at the sight of the loveable Ke Huy Quan finally getting his moment in the spotlight at 2023's Academy Awards ceremony.
Despite landing roles in two of the biggest films of the '80s in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and The Goonies as a youngster, that early success didn't lead to endless new opportunities for the fantastic Quan going forward.
In fact, the actor struggled so much to find work in the time after playing Short Round and Data, he eventually decided to quit acting altogether, enrolling in film school before also helping choreograph fights on a number of Asian movies and working as Wong Kar-Wai's assistant director.
Then a film by the name of Crazy Rich Asians landed in theatres in 2018 and Quan realised that, despite originally feeling he was at peace with his decision to leave acting behind, something was missing.
After seeing his fellow Asian actors killing it during that flick, the actor decided he wanted to return to doing exactly that after 20 years away from the front of the camera.
And after inspiring so many up-and-coming Asian actors with his displays in the '80s, Quan finally made one of the most heartwarming, surprising, and impressive comebacks of recent times in 2022's Everything Everywhere All At Once.
With Quan also appearing in the acclaimed recent American Born Chinese series and the upcoming Loki season two as well, it looks like this returning talented force thankfully won't be disappearing again anytime soon.
