10 Actors And Directors Who Had Violent Confrontations

8. Faye Dunaway Vs. Roman Polanski

url Although there were no physical altercations between the two, no list of actor-director conflicts is complete without mentioning the infamous fight between Faye Dunaway and Roman Polanski. They worked together for the first and only time, on the 1974 film Chinatown. It was during the filming that Dunaway first learned about Polanski's eccentric and often anger-filled ways of making movies. For instance, when Dunaway asked him about her character's motivation, Polanski responded by saying: "Say the words. Your salary is your motivation." Polanski was so intense about getting the perfect take, that he refused to let Dunaway take a bathroom break when filming a scene in a car. Dunaway kept pleading for him to let her go, but he refused and eventually he ordered her to roll down the window so she could hear his criticisms a little better. Polanski's request was met with liquid splashed in his face. And although the liquid came from a coffee cup, Polanski quickly realized it wasn't coffee. Someone had urinated in the cup and now the urine was all over his face. It's not known whether Dunaway finally couldn't hold herself any longer or if co-star Jack Nicholson helped her out. What's known is that Dunaway refuses to this day to talk about the event, saying that question "does not deserve the dignity of a response."
