10 Actors Who Can't Help But Play Themselves

6. Seth Rogen

Seth Rogen has seemingly made a career for himself by simply playing lazy underdogs, usually with a joint in hand, in films like Knocked Up, Superbad, Pineapple Express and Zack and Miri Make a Porno. Even when voicing the titular alien in Paul, he still manages to deliver a performance that is very much just Seth Rogen. It's hard to knock Rogen for this, as audiences have generally lapped it up, particularly the young adult crowds. Once 2007's Superbad, which Rogan co-wrote and appeared in, grossed over $120 million, that pretty much gave the actor all the approval he needed that audiences were happy to chuckle their way through a slacker-favouring, low-brow comedy. If you're making money from it, why stop? It's even got to the point now where Rogen is flat-out playing himself, having voiced himself in Family Guy and starred as himself in last year's This Is the End. Exception To The Rule: One of the few times that Rogen tried his hand at something different was as the lead in 2011's Green Hornet. Bombing at the box office and with fans and critics alike, Rogen's headlining of a Hollywood extravaganza didn't end well.
