2. Angelina Jolie Turned Down Sandra Bullock's Role In Gravity
Trying to work out what actually happened with regards to the lead role in Alfonso Cuaron's space-based thriller Gravity is near-on an exercise in futility. Sandra Bullock's performance as Dr. Ryan Stone was acclaimed by most critics as the best thing about the entire picture, of course - which is saying a lot, given that Gravity is dominated by special effects from the very first shot to the very last. And yet the Oscar-winning actress wasn't originally set to star in the movie at all. Gravity was apparently "known" around Hollywood for being an Angelina Jolie vehicle at one point, and though the tabloids have crafted tons of stories about a bitter rivalry between Bullock and Jolie in the wake of the movie's success (many of which claim that Jolie was "furious" with Bullock for "stealing" her role), the truth might be far simpler: Angelina Jolie passed on Gravity way back in 2010. And that's probably about as complex as it gets, contrary to popular belief. Gravity was in development for a long time, of course, given the complicated nature of the filming process, so it's no surprise that somebody was offered the Stone role before Bullock got involved: a lot of commitment was needed. Still, in retrospect - and given all the awards and praise that have been heaped upon Gravity since its release last year - there's a good chance Angelina Jolie regrets passing on the project after all. But who wouldn't, to be totally honest?
