10 Actors Who Turned Down 2013's Biggest Movies

4. Jessica Chastain Turned Down Rebecca Hall's Role In Iron Man 3

Jessica Chastain has made a name for herself as one of the most talented actresses of her generation - roles in both Zero Dark Thirty and The Tree of Life have been lauded by critics in recent years, but she had a fairly quiet 2013 all in all, albeit with a nice performance in the nearly good horror flick Mama. Had she found a way to fit Iron Man 3 into her schedule, however, Chastain would have ended up in the fifth-highest grossing movie of all time. OF ALL TIME! Chastain was originally signed on to play the part of scientist Maya Hansen, you see, one which she would have undoubtably imbued with her trademark flair and confidence, but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. Rebecca Hall was good in the role regardless, of course, though the part did end up feeling a little underwritten, which is a shame considering that both Chastain and Hall are two of the best actresses working in Hollywood today. So why should Chastain feel depressed about missing out on this part, then? Quite simply, because she didn't have much of a 2013, and a role in a Marvel blockbuster could have helped to bring her into the mainstream - especially one that got as much attention as Iron Man 3. The good news is that Chastain is still apparently eager to find her way into a Marvel movie at some point, so all is not lost: perhaps she'll even get a chance to play a superhero instead.
