Idris Elba's name has been floated around for many years now, and interest was renewed recently when The Wire star was rumoured to have won the part.

Of course, nothing's been formally announced yet, though Elba sure looks great in a suit, has a distinct air of Britishness about him, and is an exceptional actor to boot.

Bond producer Barbara Broccoli has even commented that "it is time" for a more racially diverse interpretation of 007, which in an era where inclusiveness has reached peak importance, would be a great move for a series often called out for its rather conservative politics.

The one major obstacle, sadly, is his age. Elba turns 46 next month, and if we optimistically assume that Bond 26 starts filming in late 2021, he'd be 49 years of age.

Considering how we tend to only get a new Bond film every 3-4 years these days, he'd likely be pushing 60 after just three movies, which has unfortunate parallels to Roger Moore's leathery late-day tenure.

Granted, Elba sure doesn't look his age, but when it comes to the action stakes, this is a huge disadvantage. He would've been perfect 10 years ago, but now? It's probably not happening, no matter what the tabloids say.
