10 Actors Who Played The Same Character A Ridiculous Number Of Times

5. Johnny Weissmuller As Tarzan €“ 12 Times

The Films: Tarzan The Ape Man (1932), Tarzan And His Mate (1934), Tarzan Escapes (1936), Tarzan Finds A Son! (1939), Tarzan€™s Secret Treasure (1941), Tarzan€™s New York Adventure (1942), Tarzan Triumphs (1943), Tarzan€™s Desert Mystery (1943), Tarzan And The Amazons (1945), Tarzan And The Leopard Woman (1946), Tarzan And The Huntress (1947), Tarzan And The Mermaids (1948). Even though the character is pretty outdated in a world of sci-fi and superheroes, Tarzan still sticks around; the late nineties Disney cartoon has surprisingly endured, last year brought a CGI movie and Warner Bros. keep inching closer to getting a live-action reboot off the ground. But it€™s all incredibly slow-paced when compared to the hero in his prime. Already popular from a string of silent films, Tarzan really grew to prominence in the guise of Johnny Weissmuller, a former Olympic swimmer. Playing the ape man twelve times in sixteen years, his films weren't accurate to the source novels, but proved a massive hit with general audiences regardless and define the character to this day; it€™s from his interpretation the simplistic, noun-based chatter became popularised. Although other actors played Tarzan after Weissmuller, no one came close to his record. A record which he subsequently made look small-fry, as we€™ll see in a little bit.
