8. Anne Hathaway
Anne Hathaway hit the big time in 2001 in teen comedy the Princess Diaries, playing an American teenager who discovers she is heir to the throne of a tiny fictional European kingdom. Happens all the time in Europe... Although she made her dramatic intentions clear pretty early on, with roles in Brokeback Mountain (2005), as a young Jane Austen in Becoming Jane (2007) and an Oscar nominated turn in Jonathan Demme's 2008 family drama Rachel Getting Married, Anne was still bringing home the big pay checks for rom-com fare like The Devil Wears Prada (2006), Bride Wars (2009) and Love and Other Drugs (2010). She finally made it to the dramatic big league in 2012, when she brought the collective film going world to tears with her visceral, Oscar winning musical performance as Fantine in Les Miserables, which involved some very harrowing real life starvation and head shaving. That same year she proved Batman had met his match as a very grown-up Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises. And, with a role in Christopher Nolan's upcoming sci-fi flick Interstellar, Anne looks set to continue her dark dramatic streak.
