8. Richard Gere Didn't Like Glamourising Greedy Bankers - Pretty Woman

You'd be forgiven for wishing you could be whisked away by a businessman as dashing and charming as Richard Gere's Edward Lewis upon taking in the iconic 1990's rom-com, also featuring Julia Roberts in a career-making turn as Hollywood sex worker Vivian Ward.

However, Gere himself has often gone out of his way to apologise for his part in the flick as the years have rolled on by, even going as far as to blast the picture for glamourising greedy bankers back in 2012.

As the Hollywood legend put it to Australian Woman's Day:

"It made those guys seem dashing, which was wrong. Thankfully, today, we are all more skeptical of those guys.”

Clearly softening somewhat on the concept of stealing the hearts of fans the world over in the years since shuddering at the though of making Lewis seem desirable, though, Gere would confess to Us Weekly in 2018 that, on the back of being told by countless folks that they simply cannot switch off the flick each time it pops up on their screen, “When they tell me this I apologize because I take up so much of their time.”

I'm sure they don't mind, Rich...
