The real life Natascha Kampusch spent eight years in captivity, confined to a dungeon at the mercy of notorious madman Wolfgang P™iklopil. For the 2013 movie adaptation of these tragic events (which culminated in Kampusch's eventual escape after 3096 days), Antonia Campbell-Hughes was cast in the role of Kampusch.

And in her own words, she set about to "to suffer as much as did." Which saw her dropping a hell of a lot of weight - to the point where she was barely recognisable, and health experts began to weigh in, fearing for her life.

That's not all, though: due to the "dungeon" setting where much of the story takes place, Campbell-Hughes also tore her Achilles tendon, received a broken toe, and fractured a rib (amongst many other cuts and bruises which must have seem arbitrary at that point) as filming progressed. Certainly, this was no mere "going through the motions" performance.
