10 Actors Who Are Certifiably Insane

1. Klaus Kinski

Klaus Kinski was frequently cited as "the German Marlon Brando", and in simply watching his splendid performances in five of Werner Herzog's films (most notably Aguirre, the Wrath of God and Fitzcarraldo), it's certainly clear that the distinction holds water. In Herzog's documentary about his contentious work relationship with Kinski, we learn that Kinski was a manic presence on set, screaming at crew members for virtually no reason to placate his own ego, and as in the above image, frequently trying to murder Kinski. So troublesome was the actor that on the set of Fitzcarraldo, the disturbed native extras offered to murder Kinski for Herzog, something he claims to regret refusing. One of the prime instances of the suggestion that insanity begets fantastic artistry, Kinski may no longer be around, but the tales of the mad bastard continue to reign supreme.
