10 Actors Who Begged For Their Character NOT To Die

3. Kal Penn - House

Fox's House is probably the most iconic medical drama in television history, helping to launch the likes of Hugh Laurie to superstardom and remaining a popular pick for binging through even today, eight years on from its original ending. What helps make the show stand out from the rest is the strong collection of likeable and capable diagnosticians that make up the Princeton–Plainsboro Teaching Hospital wards.

One of the most popular of these experts was Kal Penn's Dr. Lawrence Kutner. Open-minded and driven, some of his methods are ethically grey but they serve him well and help win him favour with House. This would combine to lead to a pretty shocking end for Kutner when Penn left the show in 2011.

According to Penn, he was never told that he would be written off the show and his character's suicide was met with shock and a little bit of resentment. Penn has said that he had tried to explain that he was open to remaining with the show, but his character's death remained in the show and a brief cameo in 2012 was the last fans got to see of Kutner.
