She has never been the most prolific of actresses, but in the mid-00s, when Jennifer Garner appeared in a movie, it was generally one of reasonable status, and with a juicy part for her. Big screen-wise, she possibly peaked in 2007’s Juno. As the expecting adoptive mother she is genuinely award-worthy, and could have continued down that reputable indie path.
Instead, she put out a series of romcoms, including Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past and the truly appalling Invention Of Lying. It has been primarily forgettable fare for Garner since then, with a supporting turn in Oscar fave Dallas Buyers Club the rare exception.
Coming into the 2010s she appeared in some truly strange films, like The Odd Life Of Timothy Green, a curio about a child/plant hybrid. As ever, she’s perfectly good in her role as the leafy boy’s surrogate mother, but it can’t be where she, or anyone, saw her career going.
Garner seems to have a full schedule offscreen, with various charity and campaigning commitments, so it may just be the case that Hollywood has lost its lustre somewhat.
