10 Actors Who Clearly Didn't Learn Anything From Past Mistakes
7. Katherine Heigl
Right around 2007 Katherine Heigl seemed poised to take over the world: not only was she one of the stars of Grey's Anatomy, and became one of the leads in the Apatow opus Knocked Up. In that film the world was not only transfixed by this woman's obvious beauty, but somehow bought into the idea that her character would not only sleep with a paunchy schlub like Seth Rogen, but would stay with him to boot. Of course, the years have come and gone since that auspicious beginning and indeed much has changed. There are no more loutish manchildren paired with Heigl; films like 27 Dresses, The Ugly Truth, and Life As We Know It saw the lady trade up for a slew of more chiseled, yet ultimately more interchangeable male co-stars. On one hand this is maybe a good thing: the trope of a beautiful, fit women being paired with a slovenly, slacker idiot is as tiring, sexist and entrenched as anything in pop culture, but the stories surrounding Heigl's various pairings with Beefcake #1 or Beefcake #2 are so prescriptive to rom-com formula that any sort of creative progression for her career has been ultimately thwarted. What's worse is that after getting mauled repeatedly by the critics and ignored by audiences (Higel's latest effort, The Big Wedding, flopped predictably) the actress seems to have not learned her lesson (she has a couple of films coming up that seem hardly promising). Not a good place to be for someone with a career on life support.
Adam Mohrbacher has been afflicted with an obession for film since his earliest memories. In addition to his work with WhatCulture, Adam has been a contributor with Filmophilia.com, FilmMonthly.com and Examiner.com. You can also check out his personal blog here: adammohrbacher@wordpress.com.
A devoted fan of all film genres and styles, Adam gets equally giddy over the sensitive, existential musings of Ingmar Bergman, and the brawny brilliance of Arnold Schwartzenegger. He loves fish tacos and misses the work of Heath Ledger and Jack Lemmon on a daily basis.
