10 Actors Who Destroyed Themselves For Terrible Movies
2. Brendan Fraser Had To Wear An Exoskeleton To Get Through Scenes - Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor
Leading each and every one of the three Mummy entries that helped establish Brendan Fraser as a household name, the star's much-loved time as Rick O'Connell on the big-screen did actually come at a particularly painful price.
By the time Fraser was set to lead the franchise's third, but ultimately poorly received, 2008 entry in The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, the actor's body was very much feeling the strain after throwing himself into his own stunts for years.
So much so that during the shooting of that final slice of Mummy action, Fraser would routinely put himself together "like a gladiator with muscle tape and ice packs" every morning before stepping onto set. The star also recently described "strapping on this Transformer-like exoskeleton just to get through the scene".
All those years of fully embracing the action side of moviemaking led to a great many surgeries for the leading man down the road, too, with Fraser eventually undergoing a partial knee replacement, vocal chord surgery, and a laminectomy.
Despite that anticlimactic end to his trilogy of Mummy flicks and the physical number they did on his body, though, Fraser would remarkably still be "open" to a fourth Mummy appearance should the right idea arise.
