9. Russell Brand - Despicable Me
I don't know why exactly this irks me so much, but Russell Brand's voice has never felt quite right in the otherwise excellent and surprisingly heart-wrenching Despicable Me, although I've failed to find anyone else who agrees with me. Having thought about this long and hard, I've come to a couple of conclusions as to why I don't think Brand's voiced matches up with his character, Dr. Nefario, but the main one has to do with
age. Dr. Nefario has grey hair and looks like he's somewhere in his '60s. Russell Brand is in his early thirties, has an incredibly specific English accent, and - not that it matters - has a ton of hair. Whenever Nefario opens his mouth in Despicable Me and Brand's voice slips out, it feels like one of those temporary dubs they have over at Pixar - you know, where Brad Bird fills in most of the voices. It's an odd and consistently distracting presence.
