10 Actors Who Got SERIOUSLY Ripped To Play Superheroes

6. Chris Evans (Captain America: The First Avenger)

Though Chris Evans certainly had to stay in shape for the Fantastic Four movies, his Johnny Storm physique looked positively dainty compared to his ultra-muscled appearance in Captain America: The First Avenger.

In order to convincingly play the iconic emblem of American idealism and provide a jarring contrast to his pre-serum scrawniness (achieved by pasting Evans' head over a rail-thin stand-in actor), Evans gained almost 30 pounds of muscle.

Evans weight-trained extensively in order to bulk up, while employing circuit training to cut his body fat to 10-12%. Though Evans arguably had it a little easier than most of his superhero comrades - he was already in pretty great shape in The Losers the year prior - there's no denying the hard graft required to carve out such a chiselled, Adonis-like physique.

And of course, the movie took perfect advantage of Evans' effort by featuring him both shirtless and in the tightest shirts physics can allow.
