10 Actors Who Suffered Career Meltdowns After Winning Oscars
2. Cuba Gooding Jr.
Cuba Gooding Jr. was brilliant in Jerry Maguire; affable, entertaining, hilarious - it's no wonder he was gifted with an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. And given his inherent gravitas and sheer likeability, it appeared that - moving forwards - the only way was up. And yet, for reasons unknown to anyone, things seemed to go the other way entirely. Ben Carson. Shadowboxer. Gifted Hands. These are the names of actual movies that Cuba Gooding Jr. starred in in the wake of his Oscar win. What do they all have in the common? The fact that you've never heard of them - and rightly so, given that they're all insufferable. Worst of all, Gooding apparently set about sabotaging his own post-Oscar career in purpose, intent on doing the very opposite of what most Oscar winners do and avoiding all those big, meaty roles that people like to watch. A movie called "Boat Trip" resulted from this decision in 2002. It's awful. Since then, Gooding Jr. has failed to bring anything to the tale. Which can only mean one thing: his turn in Jerry Maguire was a fluke.
