10 Actors Who Hated Working On James Bond Movies
2. Sean Connery
James Bond’s most famous actor, the man who helped create the iconic look of M16’s greatest agent, would admit that he loathed the beast that he had created. Not being one to mince words, Sean Connery bluntly stated ‘I have always hated that James Bond, I’d like to kill him’ in an interview with The Observer. However, it didn’t start off like that, apparently, Sean Connery was fine with Bond’s first few outings, but by 1967’s You Only Live Twice he had grown incredibly weary of the role.
Tensions between Connery and Albert Broccoli reached fever pitch by this time, to the point where whenever Broccoli visited production, Connery would lock himself in his trailer. It’s no wonder then that Broccoli decided to drop Connery and hire Lazenby for 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, to which the fallout from Connery and Broccoli’s relationship helped to destroy Lazenby’s experience on set.
When 1971’s Diamond Are Forever came around with Connery back in the role of Bond since Lazenby left swiftly afterwards, Sean Connery was so fed up that he just donated all of his fee to charity. Diamonds are forever was Connery’s last outing, and that was planned from the outset. He had had enough of the role, and wanted to do more with his career than playing an English spy.
