Ryan Gosling is one of those actors who you might assume is a major box-office draw, but if you look at the numbers, that just isn't the case.

Many of his recent efforts - Blade Runner 2049, The Nice Guys, Only God Forgives - underperformed or outright flopped, and taking his shaky financial results into account, it isn't too surprising that none of his movies have ever spawned sequels.

Over the years though, there have been a couple of chances for him to reprise a role, with sequels to Drive, The Nice Guys, and Blade Runner 2049 being discussed by the creatives involved. However, Gosling himself shut down the possibility of a Drive followup, and with Blade Runner 2049 and The Nice Guys disappointing at the box-office, sequels to either of those would be unlikely.

Still, Gosling has decades of acting ahead of him, so there's a good chance we'll see him join a big franchise at some point down the line. Interestingly, he did meet with Marvel to discuss playing Doctor Strange, so it seems like he's open to the idea of donning a cape and starring in a few comic-book movies.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
