10 Actors Who Just Aren't Trying Hard Enough

4. Samuel L Jackson

Career High: Unbreakable Career Low: Snakes On A Plane Despite his good recent work as part of the Avengers film (perhaps it was more to do with how little he was actually used), and outside of his other Marvel appearances, the quality of Samuel L Jackson's recent work has been less than great. In Lakeview Terrace, The Spirit and Soulmen, Jackson seems to have been under the impression that acting merely requires raising your voice to a menacing level and glaring furiously at everything and everyone. Things weren't always this way, and Jackson has some seriously impressive credits under his belt - but then for every Ordell Robbie and Jules Winfield there's a wooden Mace Windu or a just plain bad Foley (from The Samaritan/Fury in case you missed it). It's unlikely his upcoming Marvel projects will give him the opportunity to flex his muscles, and the xXx sequel will presumably go the same way, but at least Django Unchained should give us some classic Jackson. It is needed.
