10 Actors Who Just Recently Did Their Best Work Ever

6. Chris Hemsworth - Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

The Substance Demi Moore
Warner Bros.

Thanks to being one of the Avengers, Chris Hemsworth might be a big name in the industry, but there's an argument that he's been rather underutilized in certain ways. He's mainly cast in action hero roles, and while he does these really well, Hemsworth has more range than that. He's superb as racing driver James Hunt in Rush, for example, and he gave a disturbing villainous turn in the underrated Bad Times at the El Royale. Furthermore, he's always brought his considerable dramatic and comedic chops to his many blockbuster roles.

Hemsworth's casting in Furiosa: A Mad Max Story is likely to do some good things for him, as playing the film's antagonist Dementus - a rare part that allowed Hemsworth to use his native Australian accent - was an invaluable opportunity for him to shed his leading man persona and get lost in a stranger, darker role. Did he cash in on this opportunity? Oh, yes.

Hemsworth is wonderful in this excellent action prequel, and he's a brilliantly nasty, kooky villain that both makes your skin crawl and provokes an odd sense of pity. It's easily the greatest work he's ever done, and hopefully this performance will endure as definitive proof that Chris Hemsworth is more than just a set of muscles - he can really act and then some.
