10 Actors Who Need To Make A Great Movie Before It's Too Late

After Earth In this new era of high concept, CGI-addled flicks, there are some who believe that the time of the "movie star" is officially up. When Avatar went on to become the highest grossing movie of all time, despite the fact that its central protagonist was played by a relatively unknown actor, it sent a few shockwaves through the Hollywood system: people still went to see the movie, despite the fact that no big names were attached. And they didn't seem to care about that, either. It was the special effects, coupled with the hype, that sold the movie to them instead. That said, I still firmly believe in the stars: ultimately, when you take away all those new-fangled techniques, it's the stars who make going to see the movies truly interesting. Of course, the scripts and the directors and the crew are of utmost and equal importance, but what use are those people if there's nobody around capable of making us believe. Of selling us the story. That's what a great actor will do, and it's sad to think that one day we might let them fall by the wayside in favour of characters rendered with computer graphics instead. 21st century cinema customs have resulted in a lot of great actors losing their way, because if you can hire Sam Worthington and make the world's highest grossing movie, why spend money on Brad Pitt or George Clooney? That's not always the case, of course: sometimes several bad decisions in a row might force a star out of the limelight and onto shaky ground. Whatever the reason, here's 10 otherwise great actors who seriously need to rescue their careers with a decent movie role in the near future... before we lose 'em for good.
