10 Actors Who Only Gave Great Performances Because They Got Drunk
9. Most Of The Cast - Dazed And Confused
Upon tackling a studio film for the first time, Richard Linklater must've been at least a little bit phased by the fact that he needed - if his film was to work at all - the ensemble of his high school movie Dazed And Confused to seem like real long-time friends partaking in a day and night of wild partying. The director's solution was simple, however: let them drink real beer, on-set, on-film, all the time. Only minors didn't partake in drinking Dazed And Confused's real beer (because, well, that would be illegal); lead Jason London also refused to drink, and was trying to stop smoking at the same time. Speaking of smoking, Linklater has since revealed that the cast is really "stoned in several scenes", meaning Dazed And Confused was one of the best reasons to make a film since Animal House (more on that film later). The audience, meanwhile, gets a laidback glimpse of '70s high school as the director always intended it.
Lover of film, writer of words, pretentious beyond belief. Thinks Scorsese and Kubrick are the kings of cinema, but PT Anderson and David Fincher are the dashing young princes. Follow Brogan on twitter if you can take shameless self-promotion: @BroganMorris1
