4. Halle Berry
For Marvel: Weather manipulating toad striker Ororo Monroe AKA Storm in X-Men, X2: X-Men United, X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Days of Future Past
For DC: Stripperifically costumed undead feline Patience Phillips AKA Catwoman in Catwoman
How did the change work out? Halle Berry was a rising star when she first signed on to play Storm in Bryan Singers X-Men film. By the second she was an Oscar winner and a Bond girl. Despite this, Berrys lack of a significant role within the mutant ensemble resulted in a falling out with Singer and Berry being quite publicly dismissive of both the character and the franchise. Although Singer-less threequel The Last Stand was much weaker on the whole than its predecessor, it was the one entry in the franchise that allowed Storm a central part in the plot. By then, though, she had already gone over to an iconic DC comics role, hoping for a solo lead in her own superhero franchise. Catwoman had been stuck in development hell for years. The film that eventually emerged with Berry in the lead as Patience Phillips was almost completely unrecognisable from the original concept and character. Universally panned, it "won" Berry a Razzie award for Worst Actress and allowed her to give an acceptance speech that ran: "I want to thank Warner Brothers. Thank you for putting me in a piece of shit, god-awful movie... It was just what my career needed." A run of flops since (including Movie 43, one of the few films worse reviewed than Catwoman) caused a return to the character of Storm in the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past. However, with Berry pregnant during filming, her involvement in large scale action sequences seems unlikely.
