10 Actors Who Refused To Be On Set Together
9. Robert De Niro And Mickey Rourke - The Irishman
This on-set animosity may not have led to a pair of actors refusing to work with each other during the shooting of a particular film, but it did supposedly stop one landing a role in one of the biggest flicks of recent times.
Acting masters Mickey Rourke and Robert De Niro both worked together on a horror thriller called Angel Heart (1987). However, instead of hitting it off and comparing notes with a star he'd idolised for years, Rourke was quickly offended by De Niro's apparent suggestion to not talk throughout the filming of the picture 'because of (their) characters in the movie'.
Speaking to Italian TV Show 'Live – Non è la D’Urso', Rourke mentioned how this moment, along with another exchange which involved the film's director stating that De Niro didn't want to be touched by him, led to the Sin City star losing respect for his former idol.
This eventually led to De Niro reportedly costing Rourke a part in Martin Scorsese's 2019 mob epic The Irishman, as the latter stated that 'the casting person told my manager that Robert De Niro said he refused to work with me in a movie.'
The film's producers have since denied this was the case and even added that he wasn't ever considered to be in the movie. Whoever's telling the truth, it's clear we won't be seeing these two share a set any time soon.
