10 Actors Who Refused To Make Sacrifices For Movie Roles

1. Will Smith Couldn't Sacrifice His Pride For Django Unchained

Will Smith€™s film career has needed a kick up the arse for a while now. The impending release of Concussion may finally do the trick, but Smith could have won back some acclaim years ago if he€™d taken the title role in Quentin Tarantino€™s Django Unchained back in 2013. "Django wasn't the lead, so it was like, I need to be the lead," The Fresh Prince later told Entertainment Weekly of his reasoning, while on the press circuit for the utter dud After Earth. "The other character was the lead!€ Smith attested, €œI was like, 'No, Quentin, please, I need to kill the bad guy!'" The €˜other character€™ Will Smith is referring to there must be Christoph Waltz€™s Dr. King Schultz, who gobbles up a fair share of screen time in Django€™s movie, it must be said. But if Smith had sacrificed his €œI need to be the lead€ mentality and swallowed his pride a little, he could€™ve worked with a much-loved director on a solid, successful movie rather than flopping critically and (to a lesser extent) commercially with After Earth. Sorry, Big Willy, but you€™ve ended up in the ranks of the €˜actors who won€™t risk personal sacrifices to make big movies€™ club. And you didn€™t even have a good reason like looking after your family or sticking to your guns on an important topic. Your excuse was a naff sci-fi flick with your son in it. Tough break. Which other actors refused to make sacrifices and missed out on great roles? Shout any more down in the comments.
