10 Actors Who Refused To Make Sacrifices For Movie Roles

8. Christian Bale Was Put Off By The Weight Gain For Ferrari

The most recent entry on this list, Christian Bale quit Michael Mann€™s upcoming Enzo Ferrari biopic due to weight gain worries in January 2016. The role would have needed him to fatten up significantly, but the actor wasn€™t willing to sacrifice his body to such methods and departed the project instead. The interesting thing here is that Bale is normally up for anything. He starved himself drastically for The Machinist and buffed up significantly directly afterwards to play Batman in Christopher Nolan€™s Dark Knight trilogy. After that, he developed the necessary paunch for American Hustle, which was probably a lot more fun. But now, he€™s deemed the task of enlarging himself to the scale of the late Ferrari founder to be one body transformation too far. Fair play to the man, since gaining several stone of fat for a role - and maintaining that diet throughout the production process - could do serious damage to his health. Michael Mann is now searching for a heavy set actor to take the role. Bale hasn€™t announced his next project yet, but don€™t expect it to be a major transformative role like those he€™s picked before. Maybe he€™s done with those altogether now.
