10 Actors Who Refused To Promote Their Own Movies
8. Jim Carrey - Kick-Ass 2
Legendary comedy actor Jim Carrey was clearly happy to play the part of Colonel Stars and Stripes in Kick-Ass 2 (2013) when he initially signed on the dotted line. But, once filming had wrapped on the project, real life events drastically altered his opinion on the film he'd just lent his name and face to.
A month after the feature had been completed, a tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School occurred and Carrey simply couldn't condone the extreme violence audiences would be seeing in his upcoming movie in the wake of this awful incident.
Posting on Twitter, the Liar Liar star said:
'I did Kick-Ass a month before Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence. My apologies to others involved with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart.'
Carrey ultimately refused to promote the film in the lead up to its release, but many on the social media site felt his stance was a tad hypocritical given he was all too happy to keep hold of the dollar he received for appearing in a film he disagreed with so deeply.
