10 Actors Who Refused To Use Stunt Doubles For Epic Fight Scenes
8. American Ultra - Jesse Eisenberg Vs. Everyone
When one thinks of a typical action star, it is safe to say Jesse Eisenberg does not come to mind. At least not immediately, or even shortly after that. He's undoubtedly a skilled actor. But films such as Adventureland, Zombieland (Both 2009), and The Social Network (2010) have ensured a certain perception formed around what kind of characters the actor plays.
Usually timid, intelligent but unconfident individuals are his bread and butter, yet he chose to play the unorthodox main character in American Ultra (2015).
In the movie, he plays Mike Howell, a stoner in a small town who's actually the sole survivor of a CIA experiment. To prepare for the role of an unknowing CIA asset, Eisenberg undertook a two-week training camp prior to filming. Training with six stunt coordinators and performers, the actor learned Southeast Asian fighting techniques in order to master the choreography. The training ended up being so thorough, Eisenberg could adapt and improvise during the fight scenes.
In the film, Eisenberg's Howell uses supermarket items and improvisation to maim and neutralize the federal agents pursuing him.
