Stockholm born Greta Garbo was an international superstar in the “golden age“ of Hollywood in the 1920s and 30s. Garbo excelled in pretty much every role she was in, even being nominated for three Academy Awards for her performances in Anna Christie, Romance, and Ninotchka.

Despite this, she was never one that was comfortable with the spotlight. She often preferred to keep to her self and her close friends and kind of do her own thing. Garbo greatly valued her privacy and by some accounts may have even been bipolar, as she suffered from many eccentricities, meloncholy, and moods. She would even tell friends that she supposed she just suffered from a deep depression.

Naturally, she also wasn’t exactly a fan of paparazzi either, decades before Sean Penn started the concept of punching them out. When she was featured in the infamous 1938 magazine expose titled “box office poison” that was pretty much the straw that broke the camels back and too much for her to bear. Garbo decided to walk away from her film career in order to maintain that completely private life that she so craved while being a famous figure in the public eye of the world.

A long necked, left handed yank from the Philly area trying to spread the brotherly love one blurb at a time. International man of mystery and the straw that stirs the drink.
