10 Actors Who Ruin Any Film They're In

5. Michelle Rodriguez

Quite often a film can be peddling some tired old action storyline but remain enjoyable nonetheless - bouncing some cheesy lines around, blowing stuff up, and genuinely giving you some concentrated enjoyment without having to think too hard about it. They're a guilty pleasure perhaps, but a pleasure all the same. That is until Michelle Rodriguez turns up.

With feedback from the initial script readings either exposing a lack of a strong female character, or that the story isn't "gritty" enough, Rodriguez is usually the figure brought in to try and add both. Whoever she plays, she's going to be as tough-talking as she is hard-kicking, wearing sunglasses, and swinging a gun around that's bigger than she is. Oh, and she'll be making veiled references to some awful personal circumstance that's largely to blame for her not trusting anybody. All while some men objectify and underestimate her.

The main problem here is that there is so much more to good female characters than an ability to swear and break noses, and that referencing something unpalatable doesn't automatically make a film gritty. You actually feel sorry for Rodriguez in a way, as she's clearly a talented actress, but her entire career consists of failing to add elements to a film that aren't needed in the first place.
