Tilda Swinton is well-known for being an acting chameleon, capable of disappearing into even the most challenging and unlikely of roles, an ability she demonstrated beyond all compare in Luca Guadagnino's 2018 remake of Italian horror classic Suspiria.

Swinton is only recognisable in a single role in the film, as dance choreographer Madame Blanc, but the actress was also concealed underneath a jaw-dropping amount of make-up to play an elderly man by the name of Dr. Josef Klemperer.

And somehow even less recognisably, Swinton also appears as Mother Helena Markos, a decrepit old witch, layered underneath a heft of transformative prosthetics.

That Suspiria wasn't even nominated for the Best Makeup & Hairstyling Oscar is one of the greatest awards snubs of recent years, but even beyond the stunning effort to disguise Swinton, she does a remarkable job of making the three characters seem utterly distinct.

Hell, Swinton even went uncredited for the part of Klemperer, the role instead being credited to the fictional "Lutz Ebersdorf," with the production maintaining the ruse that he was indeed an 82-year-old first-time actor from Germany.

At the film's Venice Film Festival premiere press conference, Swinton even read a letter allegedly written by the man, proving her firm commitment to selling the lie. And what an impressive lie it is.
