Yep, asking for it no doubt, but there are some fairly compelling arguments for the return of the prodigal son. Pros There's a big chunk of Spidey fans who insist that Sam Raimi is God and that Maguire is another part of the Holy Trinity (JK Simmons being the Holy Spirit, obviously), and it would be a pretty smart way of clawing back some of that fan-love. Plus it would make setting up a whole new Spider-Man (which might threaten to make Civil War about 5 and a half hours long), not as necessary. Sure, you'd have to sledgehammer in some contrivances - like explaining why Spidey didn't intervene in the Chitauri invasion - but the idea of Spider-Man as a genuine icon in universe is a compelling one, and it would serve the un-masking a lot better than introducing a new character and having him be the poster-boy. Cons Sony are more likely to go back and cast JK Simmons than they are to revisit anything else even remotely associated with Sam Raimi's franchise - particularly since they're already having to accept that their Amazing Spider-Man universe is now a deflated balloon. Plus, he might look eternally 16, but he's now 39. Who would you like to see play Spider-Man for his new role in the MCU? Share your picks below in the comments thread.
