8. Sean Connery - Hobbits, Bobbits....I Just Don;t Get It
Sean Connery is about 450 million dollars lighter than he would have been had he accepted the role of Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. It has been reported that he was offered a flat rate of 30 million dollars to play the wizard, with an extra bonus of 15% of the box office takings off the top! The combined collection of films went on to make 2.9 billion U.S. You do the math. He didn't take the part because, "I didn't understand it. I had never read Tolkein and I did not understand the script when they sent it to me. Bobbits? Hobbits?" Later after seeing the movie, "I read the book. I read the script. I saw the movie. I still don't understand it." What is there to understand about a Hobbit going on an adventure? This is grade school reading not String Theory. Regardless, I don't think I would have liked Gandalf with a Scottish brogue. So it was probably for the best.
