10 Actors Who Turned Down Star Trek

4. Sean Connery - Sybok

Tom Hanks
Jerry Bruckheimer Films

Say what you will about the oft-shunned fifth entry in the Star Trek film series, but one thing it did do was expand a little on the family history of the tight-lipped Mr. Spock. Star Trek V: The Final Frontier introduces the character of Sybok, Spock's half-brother, who is on a quest to the centre of the galaxy in search of God. As pilgrimages go, that definitely has to be up there.

Laurence Luckinbill's performance as the renegade Vulcan is charismatic and entertaining, one of the few genuine highlights of the movie. But what's really interesting is to imagine James Bond himself, Sean Connery, as the bearded, logic-snubbing lunatic.

Unfortunately, this image never came to fruition, as Connery had instead signed up to play Henry Jones, the father of Indiana Jones in the film, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Given how his priceless performance in the latter turned out, we can't really be mad at him for that.
