10 Actors Who Went Through Hell (For Films No-One Saw)

4. Bob Hoskins Couldn't Stop Getting Injured - Super Mario Bros.

John Cena 12 Rounds

The production of the Super Mario Bros. movie was so nightmarish, it has become legendary. During filming, John Leguizamo got hit by a car and broke his leg. Leguizamo said he saw the director hurl boiling coffee at an extra because he didn't like his costume. Dennis Hopper got so angry one day, he screamed at the directors for three hours straight.

But the person who suffered the most was the lead actor, Bob Hoskins. Until his dying day, Hoskins repeatedly stated that Super Mario Bros. was the worst thing he ever worked on. After Hoskins was stabbed and had his finger broken during filming, you'd assume the directors and crew took precautions to ensure the safety of their big star.

Nope. Hoskins was stabbed, not once, not twice, not thrice, but four times in total. While filming other scenes, he got electrocuted and nearly drowned. Because the script kept changing, Hoskins never bothered to learn his lines. He was so frustrated, he regularly got drunk on-set.

The film turned out so badly, Nintendo didn't attempt to adapt any of their work into a live-action film until Pokemon: Detective Pikachu 26 years later.
