6. Halle Berry - Jungle Fever
When director Spike Lee told Halle Berry she was far too attractive to play a prostitute in Jungle Fever, she was determined to prove him wrong. The BlacKkKlansman filmmaker originally wanted to cast Berry as the wife of Wesley Snipes's character, until she underwent a dramatic transformation to challenge his preconceptions.
The actress visited crack den to research the role and refused to shower for an entire fortnight to capture the character's bedraggled look, and smell, apparently.
Did Berry go too far by visting dens of sin and skipping that many showers for her role? If you were to ask her co-star Samuel L. Jackson, he'd probably give you a resounding 'yes', as he is said to have been overpowered by the pong.
