10 Actors Who Were Born To Play Their MCU Roles
6. Scarlett Johansson As Black Widow
Introduced in Marvel Comics in 1964, Black Widow was initially treated more so as a background character, rather than receiving the star treatment that the likes of Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four got. Still, when Scarlett Johansson's Widow arrived on our screens in 2010's Iron Man 2, many fell in love with Nat.
Since then, Black Widow appeared in plenty of films in the MCU, making her one of the staples of that shared universe. So, it is not hard to believe that Natasha being killed off in Avengers: Endgame left a lot of fans teary-eyed as they exited theatres.
Whilst her standalone film in 2021 was nothing extraordinary, the characterisation of the MCU's Black Widow explored the Russian spy and her humanity in a believable and emotional way, with Johansson's performance as Natasha Romanoff reaffirming what makes the character so special.
Now that Johansson has stepped away from the role, and Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova is poised to fill her shoes as the new Black Widow, the MCU will feel a lot emptier without the stoic badassery and charm that Scarlett brought to the universe with her Romanoff.
