10 Actors Who Were Criminally Wasted In Famous Horror Movies
9. Hiroyuki Sanada - Army Of The Dead
Because Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead is regarded as some of his finest work, many believed Army of the Dead would be the director's return to form. This zomfest was hyped beyond measure, with the filmmaker discussing potential sequels, spin-offs, and prequels before the movie was released.
Sadly, Army of the Dead was let down by poorl camerawork, dumb jokes, and a non-sensical plot. On top of that, Snyder put such a heavy focus on creative action and imaginative shootouts, he forgot to give his characters... um... character. Dave Bautista plays the lead and yet his role comes across as generic, despite his tragic backstory. Sons of Anarchy's Theo Rossi may be a natural talent, but his character is so underwritten, it's easy to forget he's in the movie.
But one of the film's biggest crimes is how underused Hiroyuki Sanada is. The Japanese actor is so talented, he was the standout in The Last Samurai and Mortal Kombat, despite not speaking a word of English. Since he's playing the overarching villain in Army of the Dead, you'd expect him to steal the show.
Sadly, he barely appears. Although Sanada oozes charisma when he's on screen, we rarely see him.
