2. Nathan Fillion - Uncharted

The Role: Globetrotting treasure hunter Nathan Drake, as came to prominence in Sony's hit action-adventure video game franchise of the same name, and was finally played in live-action blockbuster form by Tom Holland.

Why He Was Rejected: Development on an Uncharted movie began in 2008, the year after the first video game hit stores, and an early fan favourite pick to play the live-action Nate was beloved Firefly star Nathan Fillion.

Fillion actively campaigned for the part himself, and even as various attempts to get the film made without him stalled, Fillion's enthusiasm remained strong.

Fillion eventually appeared in a 2018 Uncharted fan film which was extremely well received by fans, and so when Sony once again started putting their blockbuster adaptation together, Fillion's name was bandied around once more.

But of course, Sony ultimately decided to go in another direction entirely by casting Holland, 25 years Fillion's junior, to play a younger version of Nate.

Clearly Sony wanted a rising star who could carry the franchise for the prospective future, while Fillion, who was nearing 50 years old at the time the project finally gained traction, had effectively aged out.

Fillion seemingly has no hard feelings about the situation, beyond regretting that Sony took a whole 15 years to adapt Uncharted into a film. Had they gotten the ball rolling by, say, 2010 or so, Fillion would've been perfect for Nate. He said:

"My only regret is that we had to wait so very, very long for someone to do something so we could actually see some Uncharted stuff. Other than that, I think all my boxes have been checked."
