10 Actors Whose Brilliant Moment Of Improvisation Landed Them The Role

4. Tom Holland - Spider-Man

Remember when Marvel was searching the globe for their newest iteration of the famous web-slinger? Feeling like the MCU's own version of the X-Factor, it appeared that anyone under the age of 25 was being considered for the role of Peter Parker and not a day went by without another young talent being linked to the role.

So, how could any actor make themselves stand out from a sea of 7,500 tapes?

Well, one young man had the genius brainwave to demonstrate Spidey's impressive athletic prowess, by flipping his way into the character and that lad was of course, the former West End Billy Elliott, Tom Holland.

In numerous different tapes, Holland showed an awareness of what was needed for the role and even went that extra mile by having a boot thrown to him, after slinging an imaginary web to obtain the item. But, it was his ability to do a standing back-flip for fun and insistence on using his talent for gymnastics in various tapes/screen tests (even in front of Chris Evans!) that helped separate Holland from thousands of other Spidey hopefuls.

Kevin Feige definitely made the right choice and the MCU has only benefitted from the presence of Holland's friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man.
