10 Actors Whose Casting Made Comic Book Movies More Credible

Comic-book movies are, by their very nature, fantastical. They generally feature larger-than-life characters with more power than dress sense. For some reason, this all seems perfectly acceptable within the pages of the comic itself. There is an expectation that, when you open up a comic book, all of the characters, storylines and settings exist in a totally different universe from our own. Whether that be The Amazing Spider-Man, Batman, The Beano, or Viz. It€™s been drawn, painted, exaggerated and stylized. Different rules. However, when it comes to the movies, we have totally different expectations. We can accept super spies, cowboys, improbable wartime feats of heroism, because they are all grounded in the known world. But a bloke dressed in a leotard, swinging from rooftops? A chap with mechanical arms called Doctor Octopus? Never mind the flying, how exactly does Superman go to the toilet? All these improbable elements need a lot of hard work and skill to sell: in the storytelling, the setting, the direction, and the casting. George Lucas knew it when he was filming Star Wars. He had his young, relatively inexperienced, fresh-faced actors; and then he had his stalwarts of British film, Alec Guinness and Peter Cushing. Serious, respected actors who could use all their experience and mastery of theatre and movies to sell a high-concept space opera. It€™s a trick that directors have been using ever since. Here's 10 actors whose casting made comic book movies more credible...
